The Phillies have been getting big-time publicity on the TV air waves.
At Monday night’s Home Run Derby, the Phillie Phanatic was featured in a MasterCard commercial. That was one was tongue-in-cheek — and for a great cause.
About a month ago, the Phils were the butt of a cruel joke by Major League Baseball. Or, more aptly, the Toronto Blue Jays.
In an MLB Play commercial, a fiercely focused Jose Bautista stares into the camera and recites why he plays the game. Ultimately, his answer is to win a World Series. Bautista also makes sure to shout out Canada, specifically Toronto (the city that signs his checks). It’s a great ad, really gets the adrenaline pumping — right up until the final seconds when it shows Joe Carter taking Mitch Williams yard in 1993.
Ouch. Yes, that still stings.
