Joe Mongeon: Police say man went on rampage after losing water balloon fight

Police said a Scranton man attacked a 9-year-old boy on Saturday after losing a water balloon fight to the child, The Scranton Times-Tribune reported today.

Witnesses told police that Joe Mongeon, 33, started a water balloon fight with the boy. But once the child beaned him with one of the slippery missiles, Mongeon allegedly became infuriated and attacked him.

After Mongeon chased the boy down, investigators said he pushed him to the ground and began kicking him. When the 9-year-old’s mother attempted to aid him, Mongeon allegedly punched her in the face, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the paper. Both victims reportedly refused medical treatment.

Mongeon is charged with two counts each of simple assault and harassment and was released on $5,000 bail yesterday.
