Joel Embiid is staying in Philadelphia, long-term, committing to the Sixers through 2029. Embiid and the team have agreed to a three-year max extension totaling $193 million. With this deal, he will be guaranteed just under $300 million with his current contract and through the end of the extension. This deal puts Embiid in the stratosphere of $500 million in career earnings, which only a few players such as LeBron James and Steph Curry have reached.
Before last season, there were many rumors out there that Joel Embiid would request a trade out of Philadelphia due to the team’s lack of success and ability to find a co-star that fit well with him. He routinely was connected to the New York Knicks. Not only did the big man have his best year yet and fought his way into the MVP conversation before getting hurt, but the Sixers also found his running mate in Tyrese Maxey.
Maxey took a giant leap last season and turned into a certified all-star, the perfect fit for Embiid. The Sixers also revamped their roster this Summer, adding Paul Goerge to a team that has true championship aspirations. With the organization committed to winning, Embiid has committed to the organization with the remainder of his career.
Embiid has always talked about his love for the franchise and the city and his aspirations of wanting to finish his career in Philadelphia. With this much-deserved extension, his love affair with the city will continue until he walks away from the game.
