The NBA has announced that Philadelphia 76ers‘ center Joel Embiid has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December. Embiid has been rounding into MVP form for the Sixers and received some recognition for his outstanding play in the last month. For December, Embiid averaged 35.4 points per game, 9.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game.
This award is Joel Embiid’s fifth time being recognized as Eastern Conference player of the month, surpassing Allen Iverson for the most in franchise history. The Sixers’ star center powered the team to a 9-4 record in the month of December, which also saw an eight-game win streak, including a 7-0 homestead.
During December, Embiid scored 30 points or more ten times, including at 53 point game against the Charlotte Hornets. “The Process” also ended the month with a triple-double against the Oklahoma City Thunder on New Year’s Eve.
Joel Embiid is second in the league in scoring, averaging 33.5 points per game, behind Luka Doncic by less than one point . Embiid and Doncic seem to be fighting for the scoring title every single night since November. Embiid is also averaging a career-high in assists (4.6), steals (1.2), and field goal percentage (53%) this season. He is firmly making his way back into MVP consideration.
