Junior’s to move baking operations from NYC to South Jersey, near Philly!

In what The New York Times is calling a “logistical and symbolic” leap, Junior’s, the iconic New York City cheesecake giant, is moving its baking facility from Queens to South Jersey. Near Philly.

Logistical and symbolic? Well we’ll tell you what any dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker thinks: It stinks.

Alan Rosen is the grandson of the founder, the late Harry Rosen, who wisely opened the first Junior’s on Flatbush Ave. in Brooklyn in 1950.

He tells The Times: “Just trust me, OK? As my grandfather is looking down on me, I tested cheesecakes made in New Jersey yesterday and they are identical to the ones we make in Brooklyn.”

“They’re actually coming out better.”

The baking facility in Maspeth, Queens, will be gone by July. The Jersey one will be in Burlington County, much closer to Philadelphia than it is to Brooklyn.

“We basically ran out of room, our lease was up, and in order for us to get the amount of space we really need to operate efficiently, we had to go a little bit outside of the city,” Rosen told 1010 WINS.

Yeah, but Jersey?

Junior’s has four restaurants, and a wholesale and mail-order business.
