Karen Brown: The teachers union has to go

Republican mayoral candidate Karen Brown went to Washington, D.C. yesterday to meet with several members of congress to discuss her “vision paper,” a work that’s still in progress about breaking the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers union.

“I’m a union girl, but I can’t see how you can fix the schools without breaking the union. It prevents you from getting teachers back to teaching again. … I’m not against the teachers. I’m against the teachers union,” she said this morning. “Our kids are suffering. We’re losing our future. … We need to rethink our whole school system.”

She also said superintendent Arlene Ackerman “needs to go.”

The PFT has been called for a response.
