Kensington rally is next up for Milton

Declared mayoral candidate T. Milton Street Sr. will hold a rally Saturday afternoon “with concerned citizens from the Kensington area where most recently [an alleged] serial killer took innocent lives.” He will be handing out job applications for his “Community Crime Stoppers” initiative to hire 3,000 ex-offenders and others to patrol neighborhoods.

“You can make $100 to work at the polls, or you can work at the polls for nothing with an opportunity to recapture some semblance of quality-of-life,” Street told Metro. “People are concerned but you can have an unemployed ex-con in your neighborhood or an employed ex-con. Which do you want?”

Street claims he’s collected about 2,000 nominating-petition signatures. His attorneys are preparing his ethics statements prior to the March 8 filing deadline, said the former mayor’s older brother.

“I’ve never seen a response like this, such a thirst for change but it’s not going to work if [supporters] don’t go out and vote,” he said. “When it comes to electability, one value system says you need a lot of money. I’m out to prove that theory wrong. Who needs commercials? People already want to hear what Milton has to say.”

Saturday’s 1 p.m. rally will take place at Kensington and Indiana streets.
