Kicking it old school with Union

The Union have many unanswered questions as they enter their second season of MLS play.

But one thing seems certain. New keeper Faryd Mondragon, 39, may be the hardest worker on the club — and will provide a veteran presence in net.

“He is such a great guy, and everyone is looking up to him,” manager Peter Nowak said yesterday in a conference call with reporters. “Even with his experience, you wouldn’t know it because he puts everything on the line and he’s not looking for any free passes in training.”

Right now, the Union is honing their skills at training camp in Orlando. If roster spots are on the line, the tight-lipped manager isn’t saying.

“We are still working on some things that could improve our roster offensively and defensively,” Nowak said.
