Kreider scores game-winner, Flyers lose consecutively in OT

The Orange and Black had to compete with Red October. It would’ve been a little more worthwhile to choose the Philadelphia Phillies. The Philadelphia Flyers went deep into overtime with the New York Rangers, then Chris Kreider scored the only goal of the contest. On a breakaway, Carter Hart eventually surrendered the game-winner after a stellar performance. The Flyers lost, 1-0, falling to 5-2-2 on the season.

Lemme know when they score

There were opportunities, but no scoring. The first period was evenly contested. A few beautiful chances for the Flyers, including a wraparound attempt by Travis Konecny blocked by Ryan Lindgren at the goal line. Philadelphia had the first powerplay chance, and Owen Tippett had another chance, but Kappo Kakko shut it down defensively.

“Some guys are growing, and as long as I see effort and care, and belief in what we’re trying to do; I’m leaving the building in a decent mood.”

John Tortorella; 11/1/2022

New York led in both shot attempts, 8-7. The wraparound chance was the best opportunity Philadelphia had, and they held their ground defensively to close out the first. Scott Laughton and Morgan Frost made a few drive killing plays along the wall, including a blocked shot.

Somebody score!

The Rangers were lively in the second period. Hart received the bulk of his work during the middle stage of regulation, stopping more chances cycling throughout most of the opposing lineup. Hayes and Konecny nearly were the ultimate opportunists, but Igor Shesterkin made critical saves when called upon. Shesterkin turned away Noah Cates before the end of the period, showcasing a goaltender duel between the clubs.

New York had a whopping lead in shots on goal, 36-19. The final frame began with the Flyers on the powerplay thanks to a end of period scrum before the second intermission. Philadelphia couldn’t convert, but John Tortorella had his roster working hard. It was the best period for his team throughout the tilt.

“I thought they played hard. This is going to be a little bit of what we are as we try to get this on the right track.”

John Tortorella; 11/1/2022

Hart saved 35/36 shots on goal before Kreider scored the game winner with a little less than a minute remaining in OT. Zibanejad set up the pass, as we all thought it would play out. The Flyers fell in their second overtime period in as many games, 1-0.

Gina’s Gem

Hockey’s Lady Whistledown had a hard time trying to see who was the ‘Diamond of the Tilt.’ Yet only one shone above the rest and that lies with Mr. Wall himself, Carter Hart. Ending this game, Hart sits with a 94.3%SV and 2.1GAA. His 5-0-2 record gives another figure to project his incredible start to 2022-2023. He’s playing like a franchise goaltender, and he’s yet to be defeated in regulation time this season.

“Second period was a major struggle for us. The first and third we had some footing. Had some chances, but then again, both teams did. Carter gives us a chance and we didn’t score.”

John Tortorella, 11/1/2022
