The La Salle Explorers topped Boise State on Wednesday night for its first win in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament since 1990.

The Explorers were lead by Tyrone Garland, who scored 22 points in the 80-71 victory. Ramon Galloway added 21.

La Salle lead almost the entire game, which was played in Dayton, Ohio. Boise State cut the Explorers’ lead to six with just under two minutes to play, but never got any closer.

Lionel Simmons, the star of the 1990 La Salle team, was in attendance for the opening round game.

The No. 13 seed Explorers (22-9) face No. 4 Kansas State in Kansas City in a West region contest Friday.
