Late-night eating in Philly

We can’t be the only ones who get hungry after 11 p.m. — or later. And we’re definitely not the only ones who don’t want to turn on the oven, or even the microwave, at that time of night. Here are six places that will feed you during the witching hour.

Midtown II
11th and Sansom streets
Open 24 hours
This is our favorite of the Midtowns, thanks to the atmosphere. It’s quintessential diner, from the menu that features every food ever, to the waitresses who call you “hon” and comment on everything you order (“The Hungry Man Special? I don’t think you’ll finish it this late, hon. I’ll just get you some scrambled eggs.” True story).

Pub & Kitchen
1946 Lombard St.
Dinner served until 1 a.m.
You know you’re not entering typical late-night-grub territory when you spy oyster and beef tartare and Spanish octopus on the menu, though you won’t go wrong with the burger, either. Chef Eli Collins knows how to tempt our taste buds.

Silk City
435 Spring Garden St.
Dinner served until 1 a.m.
This diner/club/beer garden hybrid is perfect if you want to drink and dance, then stumble up the stairs to a booth or vinyl-covered counter stool in the attached dining car.

Steve’s Prince of Steaks
41 S. 16th St.
Open until 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday
We were thrilled when Steve’s opened its Center City location. No longer did we have to trek to the Northeast for one of our favorite cheesesteaks — or “steak and cheese,” as a Metro editor, visiting from Boston, called it when we took him there. If the Double-Meat Pizza cheesesteak is a little rich for your blood — literally — the chicken steak is a lighter option.

The Royal Tavern
937 E. Passyunk Ave.
Dinner served until 1 a.m.
If you’ve spent your evening hitting up the bars along East Passyunk, end the night with a bite at the Royal Taven. The herbivores can chow down on vegetarian and vegan options, like the grilled sweet potato banh mi, while the meat-eaters can fill up on barbecue chicken and meatloaf sandwiches.

The Industry Bar
1401 E. Moyamensing Ave.
Dinner served until 1 a.m.
Work in the…industry? The Industry Bar caters to bar and restaurant professionals who need a place to nosh after they’re off the clock. Bring proof of your bar or restaurant job, like a pay stub, and get 20% off.
