Lion’s share of the load

Sometimes football players can flunk a test and still pass the course. Not when it comes to brain injuries.

Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb and linebacker Stewart Bradley failed concussion testing yesterday. The two participated in a rehab session with athletic trainer Rick Burkholder and then were sent home.

Reid said both players have “made progress” since Monday, and he wouldn’t rule either out for Sunday. If they pass testing today, they could be cleared for meetings. The earliest they can return to practice is Friday.

“Let me tell you, Stewart is ahead of Kevin right now as far as how they feel,” Reid said. “I’m going to take this day by day, so I’m not going to tell you if they’re in or out.”

Michael Vick got all the snaps with the first-team offense yesterday and will do so again in today’s practice. The Detroit Lions are preparing as if Vick is the starting quarterback.

“We’ll prepare for Vick. We have to,” Lions coach Jim Schwartz said.

Vick, who hasn’t started an NFL game since 2006, isn’t putting any extra pressure on himself. He knows that he is just keeping the seat hot until Kolb is healthy enough to return.

“If I’m the guy, then I’m going to get ready to try to put this team in a position to win, and that’s the ultimate goal,” Vick said. “I don’t really go out and try to prove to anybody that I can still play this game.”
