Local houses of worship collecting supplies to help Afghan refugees

To symbolize unity ahead of the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, Philadelphia area’s Masjidullah Mosque, Congregation Rodeph Shalom, and The Perfecting Church are gathering resources to help Afghanistan refugees.

Supplies can be dropped off at Masjidullah Mosque, 7401 Limekiln Pike, as part of the Multi-Faith Neighbors Network (MFNN) 9/11 Day of Service.

Across the country, churches, synagogues and mosques within the MFNN will be collecting supplies, which will then be delivered to Afghanistan refugees sheltering in the United States. For information on what is needed, visit www.mfnnetwork.com/day-of-service.

“The aim of this collaborative effort is to not only provide tangible help for those fleeing Afghanistan but also to demonstrate how it is possible to work together in spite of our differences, to build resilient and flourishing communities for the common good,” said Bob Robert, Jr., co-founder of MFNN.

Already, churches and partners within the MFNN network have raised more than $125,000 for refugees, trained over 150 people to serve, gathered furniture, helped locate housing, provided translators and collected and distributed materials to refugees.

“After coming from a country with so much religious and political strife, we want the Afghanistan refugees to feel well cared for by both Muslims, Christians and Jews,” said Imam Mohamed Magid, co-founder of MFNN. “We want to show that being a good neighbor and living in a peaceful community is possible.”
