Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the Labor Day shooting of an 80-year-old man in South Philadelphia, police said Wednesday.
Nicholas Heyward-Walton, 25, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapons violations and related offenses.
Officers responding to a report of a shooting arrived on the 2600 block of Tasker Street just after 9 a.m. Monday and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head and neck, according to police. He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.
Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive in the case.
An arrest warrant for Heyward-Walton was issued later that day, and he was apprehended Tuesday at his house, on nearby Bailey Street, police said.
Heyward-Walton’s bail was set Wednesday at 10% of $1 million, according to court documents.
