A 55-year-old man was killed at a SEPTA Broad Street Line subway station early this morning after jumping from an out-of-service train, according to authorities.
A SEPTA spokeswoman said the man first jumped between two cars of a northbound non-revenue train around 12:45 a.m. at the Walnut-Locust Station in Center City. A non-revenue train doesn’t pick up passengers, but does slow to a speed of about 30 mph as it approaches each station.
The man traveled standing between the two cars until the subway reached the North Philadelphia Station on North Broad Street near Glenwood Avenue. As the train slowed there, investigators said the man tried to jump off the subway and onto the platform.
He instead hit the side of the platform and died at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
