A 45-year-old man was arrested after he fired a shot at police officers during a traffic stop Monday night in East Germantown, authorities said.
No one was struck by the bullet, and police did not return fire, according to the PPD.
Officers pulled over the man’s Buick for an expired license plate at around 10 p.m. on the 5800 block of Morton Street, investigators said. Police, while the vehicle was stopped, discovered that the plate did not match the car’s paperwork, authorities added.
The man got out of the car to check the plate before getting back into the driver’s seat to allow officers to continue processing the stop, the PPD said.
At some point, he drove off, leading officers on a brief chase to the nearby 300 block of Mechanic Street, according to investigators. There, he abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot with a gun in his hand, authorities said.
He fired off a shot in the direction of the officers before being apprehended, authorities said. Investigators allegedly recovered a gun and a .22 caliber spent shell casing at the scene.
The PPD has not publicly identified the suspect, and no further details were released Tuesday.
