A man whose decomposing body was found in the trunk of a stolen Dodge Charger earlier this week in North Philadelphia died of multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.

Police on Thursday identified the victim as 27-year-old Malik Tribble, who lived several blocks away from where the car was discovered. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

Officers responded just before 9:15 p.m. Tuesday to the 2000 block of N. Bambrey Street after someone reported “a suspicious, unattended Dodge Charger,” the PPD said in a recap of the incident.

A strong smell of decomposition was emanating from the locked trunk, and Tribble’s body was found inside wrapped in a sheet, according to investigators.

No arrests have been made, and there is no clear motive in the killing at this point, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the PPD’s Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or call or text the tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Through Sept. 17, 160 homicides had been reported in Philadelphia, down nearly 15% compared to the same date last year, according to police data.
