Man found unconscious after barricade, shooting in Elmwood

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday morning after a man allegedly barricaded himself inside a home in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia.

The incident touched off when an officer shortly before 3 a.m. heard gunshots coming from a home on the 2600 block of South Daggett Street.

A 45-year-old man on the residence’s second floor allegedly started firing a weapon at officers as more police arrived.

Investigators said two vehicles were struck by gunfire, as well as the window of another residence on the block.

No one was injured as a result of those gunshots, according to authorities.

But police said a 35-year-old man who also lived in the home exited the rear of the property and said the barricaded suspect had shot him in the right leg.

That victim was hospitalized in stable condition.

A short time later, the suspect’s wife, 37, left the property with her three children, who were uninjured, according to authorities.

Police said they were unable to make contact with the barricaded suspect despite repeated attempts.

SWAT then entered the property and found the man unconscious in the second floor bedroom with a gun next to him, according to investigators.

Police said the suspect was not shot.

He was arrested and taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for evaluation.

Police on Sunday said the man’s identity was not yet available.
