A 52-year-old man was hospitalized after nearly 20 shots were fired early Sunday morning in South Philadelphia, investigators said.
The shooting happened at around 5 a.m. on the 2100 block of S. 9th Street, according to police. Officers called to the area found the victim with gunshot wounds to his back and knee, authorities said.
He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, according to the PPD.
Detectives recovered 14 spent shell casings from a .40 caliber weapon and four from a .45 caliber gun, investigators said. A live round was also discovered at the scene, police added.

Police statistics indicate that more than 980 people have been shot in Philadelphia this year, down about 37% compared to the same date in 2023.
