Man killed, five hurt in shootings

A man was killed and five other people were wounded in shootings Sunday night and early Monday in Philadelphia.

Police said a 31-year-old man died after being shot several times in the torso and legs at around 8:30 a.m. Monday inside a property on the 4000 block of Lancaster Avenue in the Powelton neighborhood.

Officers at the scene recovered a gun from the victim. There have been no arrests.

Philadelphia has now surpassed 100 homicides for the year, and the number of people killed in the city is up by about a third compared to this time last year.

In North Philadelphia, an 18-year-old man was shot once in the left thigh while sitting in an SUV at around 11:45 p.m. Sunday night on the 2700 block of W. Seltzer Street, authorities said.

He went to Temple University Hospital for treatment, and police said he is expected to survive.

Earlier, at around 9:30 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot in the right thigh in the area of the 1500 block of Ritner Street in South Philadelphia. He was later listed in stable condition at Jefferson University Hospital.

A 43-year-old man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his left leg after a shooting at around 9 p.m. Sunday on the 200 block of W. Roosevelt Boulevard in Feltonville, police said.

Investigators said a gun was recovered in the area, but no one was apprehended. The victim is expected to physically recover.

In West Philadelphia, just after 8:45 p.m. Sunday, a 57-year-old man was shot in the right arm outside on the 200 block of N. 54th Street. He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.

Authorities said a 20-year-old man was shot twice in the abdomen just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday on the 700 block of E. Madison Street in Kensington. Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital, and he is expected to survive.

Police said he is not cooperating with the investigation.
