Man killed in Hunting Park shooting

A man was gunned down Wednesday evening in Philadelphia’s Hunting Park section, authorities said.

Officers arrived at the scene, on the 700 block of W. Luzerne Street, just after 6:30 p.m. and found 39-year-old Dorian Silva Sr. lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body, police said.

Silva, who lived nearby, died about 15 minutes later at Temple University Hospital. No one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of his killing.

Homicide detectives are also investigating the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man who was allegedly trying to break into a car behind a house in West Philadelphia.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 4400 block of Fairmount Avenue, investigators said.

Police said the homeowner, a 49-year-old man, told officers he confronted a man who was using a brick to gain entry to his vehicle. During the altercation, the homeowner fired several shots at the man.

Authorities found the man who had been shot unconscious in a nearby vacant lot on the 700 block of N. 44th Street. He succumbed to his injuries at around 11:30 p.m. at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

The shooter turned over his gun to police at the scene, according to investigators. It is not clear whether he will face charges.

Elsewhere, a 30-year-old man was stabbed several times just before 6 a.m. Thursday morning at the corner of 19th Street and Snyder Avenue in South Philadelphia. He is expected to survive, police said

Early Thursday morning, at around 1 p.m., someone shot a 36-year-old man multiple times on the 6000 block of Osage Avenue in West Philadelphia, authorities said. He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said a 56-year-old man was shot once in the groin at around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday inside a house on the 4200 block of N. 17th Street in Nicetown. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Earlier in the day, a 42-year-old man who was waiting for the bus was wounded during a chaotic shootout in Port Richmond.

Several bullets struck the victim, who was standing near the corner of Tulip Street and Allegheny Avenue, at around 5 p.m.

Gunmen inside two cars were shooting at each other at the time, Philadelphia Police Capt. John Walker told reporters at the scene. More than two dozen shots were fired.

The man was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was in stable condition.
