Police are investigating a motorcycle crash Friday night that killed a 39-year-old man in North Philadelphia.
Investigators said a 61-year-old man was around 9 p.m. driving his car west on Allegheny Avenue near Spangler Avenue when he swerved left to avoid an animal in the roadway.
A 39-year-old male motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed allegedly tried to pass the driver on his left side, clipping the front end of the car.
Police said the motorcyclist then lost control of the bike, skidding into an unattended parked car on the opposite side of the street.
Officers performed CPR on the victim, who authorities said was not wearing a helmet, until medics arrived.
The 61-year-old driver was uninjured.
The motorcyclist was rushed to Temple University Hospital with head trauma, where he died around 11:40 p.m.
The victim’s identity had not yet been released Sunday pending family notification.
