Man killed in stabbing at SEPTA Market-Frankford Line stop

A 30-year-old man was killed in a stabbing Monday morning at Somerset Station on SEPTA’s Market-Frankford Line, authorities said.

Officers responded to the elevated stop, located in Kensington, at around 8:30 a.m. for a report of a person screaming, and they found the victim on the westbound platform with a stab wound to his chest, police said.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he died just after 9:15 a.m., according to the PPD. Authorities have not publicly identified the man.

A suspect was taken into custody, police said Monday afternoon, and investigators recovered a weapon. Officials have not commented on a possible motive.

The stabbing was captured on the transit system’s surveillance cameras, SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch said, and the authority released photographs of the suspect Monday morning. Anyone with information is asked to call transit police at 215-580-8111.

PROVIDED SEPTA

SEPTA has in recent weeks been dealing with a spate of violence on or near vehicles and stations.

Last week, a shooting outside the MFL’s Arrott Transportation Center left one man dead and another man injured. Earlier in March, three people were killed and 12 others were injured in shootings involving SEPTA buses within the span of a week.
