Man run over, killed by SEPTA bus

A 61-year-old man was killed this morning after he was run over while trying to board a SEPTA bus, police said.

The incident happened at 9:26 a.m. near 8th and Girard in North Philadelphia. Officials said the man was trying to get on a Route 15 bus headed eastbound when the back door shut on his arm. The bus then took off, dragged him underneath and ran over him.

The man, who has not been identified, was declared dead at Hahnemann Hospital.

The accident is under investigation.
