Man stabbed during Fairmount robbery

A man was robbed in Fairmount early Saturday morning.

The victim, 32, was walking east on the 2700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue around 4:35 a.m. when an unknown male approached him from behind and pressed an object into his back. He told the victim he had a gun and directed him to walk into a wooded area behind a nearby playground.

The offender then directed the man to empty everything from his pockets and drop their contents on the ground. When the man turned to face his attacker, he saw that he did not have a gun, but a knife. He attempted to push the man back so he could escape, but the man began to slash at him, cutting him multiple times.

The two continued to struggle and fell to the ground. The attacker continued to slash at the victim while he was on the ground and grabbed a stick and beat the man.

He was then startled by a car horn, at which time he picked up some of the victim’s belongings, including an iPhone, ID, credit card and $20, and ran away.

The victim suffered multiple cuts to his arms, legs chest and back and was taken to Hahnemann Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The suspect is described as a thinly-built black male, about 20 years old, 5 feet 10 to six feet, with a dark complexion, scruffy facial hair and wearing a dark brimless hat, a dark jacket and dark jeans.
