Masked gunman shot dead during robbery: Police

A man was shot and killed Monday night while allegedly committing an armed robbery at a home in Lawncrest.

Philadelphia police were called to the 6100 block of Reach Street around 11:30 p.m. after a report of shots being fired, CBS reported, adding that, at the scene, police found that the homeowner had shot a masked 35-year-old man twice.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said to CBS that the masked man, armed with a gun, had entered the home and tried to rob it, but the 27-year-old homeowner grabbed his own gun and fired.

“[He] fired at least four shots at the 35-year-old who was committing the robbery, striking [him] at least two times, once in the neck and once in the chest. The 35-year-old collapsed and dropped his handgun by his feet,” Small was quoted by CBS.

Small told CBS that authorities tried to revive the suspect, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police investigation inside the house revealed semi-automatic weapons, an amount of marijuana, cash and a wrapping material used to package large amounts of marijuana, ABC reported, adding that police said they believe the suspect targeted this home and was after the drug money.
