The star-power of Anthony Edwards just hasn’t been enough to lift the Timberwolves against the power of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving this series. The two stars added 33 points each in game 3, while Edwards was largely carrying the load by himself as the sole scorer over 20 points for his team.

What makes the potential even more staggering is that according to ESPN, Dallas is now the first team to take a 3-0 series lead while also trailing in the final five minutes of each game. The amount of resilience the Mavericks have is remarkable, with the pattern starting in the closing games of their previous series against the Thunder. That type of strength is what will ultimately decide this series, with the Timberwolves now sitting in a must-win spot ahead of Game 4.

Can the Timberwolves climb back from the brink? Maybe. But for starters, they’re going to need much more from Karl Anthony-Towns, who has been surprisingly quiet throughout the series. The big-man missed every single 3-point attempt on Sunday night and that’s not a new thing. He’s really struggled offensively which puts a lot of pressure on Edwards, who is not quite at a level yet where he can carry an entire team by himself. When facing off against a combo of Luka and Kyrie, it’s hard for any team to mount a charge when the offense becomes one dimensional.

Game 4 might prompt a resurgence from Minnesota, or one would hope anyway. The Mavericks can afford to take their foot off the gas a little, especially knowing that if it comes down to the final few minutes, they have the fortitude to see it through and that’s bound to be a factor in Game 4. I think the safe bet here is the Timberwolves to cover the spread given how important this game is and the fact that they’ve stayed within 9 points in every game so far.

All it takes is a somewhat average game from someone like Karl Anthony-Towns and the Timberwolves have a real chance to claim one back and take the series back their home turf. I like them to at least stay within the spread and giver themselves a shot, even if they do get outplayed once again.
