Mental health services available in Philadelphia

Recent current events have placed an immense amount of stress on Philadelphians—from gun violence to human rights to the lingering effects of a pandemic that has altered the world for more than two years. And surely, it’s taking a toll on us all.

During these arduous times, it is important to remember there are many local and national organizations and resources available to help those struggling with mental health issues. A few are listed below.

• The city’s Community Behavioral Health hotline is available 24-hours-a-day at 215-685-6440 and can assist people with the support they need.

• Healthy Minds Philly can provide online behavioral health screenings, support and resources and can be accessed online at healthymindsphilly.org.

• To acquire intellectual disability services, call 215-685-5900.

• The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline has information and a hotline at 800-273-8255 (TALK).

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Taking care of yourself, your friends, and your family can help you cope with stress. Helping others cope with their stress can also make your community stronger.”

For additional information or assistance, visit the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services online at dbhids.org.
