Michael Vick bruised but not broken

Mike Vick got a second opinion. And it’s a lot more favorable.

Vick’s broken right hand was downgraded yesterday to a contusion following a CT scan, according to coach Andy Reid. The quarterback will be monitored this week and won’t practice until the swelling goes down.

“It was a blood vessel that was sitting over the bone,” Reid said. “I’m not obviously a doctor, but that happens at times with X-rays, and the blood vessel made it look like it was a fracture. But the positive is that there was not a fracture there.”

Reid said the swelling in Vick’s hand was about the same yesterday as it was after Sunday’s loss. Vick left at the end of the third quarter after a questionable hit from Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty.

“He tried to protect himself from the guy hitting him in the head with his hand, and it got caught between his helmet and his helmet,” Reid said.

Vick told the coach that he wants to play Sunday against San Francisco. If he can’t go, Reid wouldn’t name a starter.

“We’ll see,” he said.
