Eagles third-string quarterback Mike Kafka might be under center when the Eagles host the Giants in their home opener Sunday at the Linc.
While coach Andy Reid has yet to name a starter — there’s still a good chance Mike Vick (concussion) gets the nod — Kafka is preparing as if he’s the guy. On Wednesday, he split first-team reps with Vince Young (hamstring) in the team’s afternoon practice.
“Prepare as if you’re the starter and take it from there,” Kafka said. “I have a lot of confidence in myself and my abilities.”
Called into emergency action last week in Atlanta, Kafka completed his first seven passes and finished 7-of-9 for 72 yards. He nearly led the Eagles to a game-winning drive, but a fourth-down drop by Jeremy Maclin basically ended the game.
