QB appears ready if Foles isn’t cleared
They say to look a man in the eyes to find out the truth.
If that’s the case, then pencil Mike Vick in as the Eagles’ starting quarterback Sunday. While he would never admit it, there was a little extra twinkle in his eye Tuesday, a little extra bounce in his next step, after missing the past two games due to a nagging hamstring injury.
“I wish I could give you a definite answer on that, but I can’t right now,” Vick said, about starting Sunday. “I’m optimistic.”
Vick put his health at about 80 percent. He admitted that he hadn’t attempted to run at full throttle in practice. He’s still a little scared of any possible long-term ramifications. Make no mistake, if Vick is out there against the Giants, he’ll be giving it his all.
“No holding back,” he said. “I’ll never go out in a game and limit myself to what I can do.”
Although he did add one caveat, “unless I’ve already made up my mind to play that way. We’ll see.”
With Nick Foles going through the NFL protocol for concussions, Vick got the majority of reps with the first-team offense at practice. Rookie Matt Barkley also got a sprinkling, just in case.
Vick was asked multiple times if he would definitely be under center this week. He never took the bait, opting instead to enter into witty banter with a relentless media.
At one point during questioning, Vick smiled and said, “You’re just going to get it out of me right now, huh? Let’s just put it out there.”
Reporter: Yes, let’s just put it out there.
“I guess you can’t get it out of me,” Vick said.
