MLB trade deadline: Phillies players for sale

The Phillies will be sellers at the trade deadline. This has never really been in doubt (though the team did have a nice run of above .500 baseball back in May).

With so many prospects teeming to get their feet wet in the big leagues, the Phillies will not be shy to ship off a few win-now assets to teams in need.

Here are a few sales pitches to any interested GMs:

Gently used centerfielder available — one pitching prospect OBO

Peter Bourjos is a speedy outfielder and has hit .333 over the last 21 games. He has a .350 batting average against lefties, covers a lot of ground out in the field and can steal a bag. A great add for a team looking for outfield depth. He’s just 29-years-old and could pan out long term. Nationals, inquire within.

Up and coming catcher who can hit for power — available for two low-level prospects

Cameron Rupp has power. And he can hit for average (.278 through Tuesday). He’s emerged as the Phillies starting catcher and can be a great back up with any contending team. A top-knotch alternative to Brewers Jonathan Lucroy. Rangers, we’re looking at you.

Middle-of-the-rotation starter available for cheap!

Jeremy Hellicksonwon the AL Rookie of the Year award and has pitched extremely well recently. He’d be a great No. 4 or 5 starter on a playoff team. Orioles, take a swing, he’s a great fit!

Breakout closer available for practically nothing

Jeanmar Gomez would be a great addition to anyteam looking for back of bullpen help. The Phils closer came out of nowhere and compiled 25 saves and a 2.82 ERA. For teams that can’t afford the big names like Aroldis Chapman, Gomez is perfect! Diamondbacks, he’d be a great fit …

Act fast, the trade deadline is Aug. 1.
