Philadelphia Phillies' Bryce Harper, left, and Kyle Schwarber celebrate after Harper's two-run home run during the first inning of a baseball game against the San Francisco Giants, Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, in Philadelphia.
The 2023 MLB season is beginning to wind down and while the NL East is out of reach, a miracle World Series run certainly isn’t. After a torrid start to the season, the Phillies have been able to assert themselves as the leading NL Wild Card candidate, and, as a result, should have the opportunity to make some noise in the postseason. But how does Vegas view their chances of winning it all?
The Phillies were originally +1500 to win the World Series and rose to +2800 following their disappointing opening stint. At the All-Star break, that number was around +2400, and it’s now dropped to +1200 following another stunning summer. While things have cooled off since, their spot in the MLB betting hierarchy appears to have stabilized.
There is every chance that the team can ignite another Red October. We’ve seen them upset the Braves before and although they weren’t able to topple them in the regular season, who’s to say history won’t repeat itself?
The team is now 4.0 games up in the wild card race. (The Phillies were slated to play the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night, after Metro went to press.) It’s hard not to imagine them making the postseason with ease. This should entice bettors to get behind the Phillies in-time for their push to make a second consecutive World Series.
