It is still a few months from Halloween, but that won’t deter one of the biggest horror gatherings on the East Coast.
On Aug. 12-14, Monster Mania will celebrate its 34th show at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. All weekend long, horror fans young and old will have the opportunity to browse special horror-themed merchandise, show off their costuming and makeup skills, enjoy classic movies and other special events and, of course, meet some of their favorite icons live and in person. Returning to the convention is a staple of both horror cinema and Monster Mania, Robert Englund. Best known as Freddy Krueger in the original seven “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies (a role he has reprised in “Freddy Vs. Jason” as well as the TV series “Freddy’s Nightmares”), the classically-trained Englund has also made his mark on the darker side of cinema with turns in “Urban Legends,” “The Mangler,” and behind the camera in “976-EVIL.” Joining Englund will be Tuesday Knight, Danny Hassel, Andras Jones and Lisa Wilcox from “A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master,” one of the most beloved and successful entries in the original “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise. As if celebrity guests and exciting merchandise weren’t incentive enough, fans will also have the opportunity to watch classic horror films (including a midnight production of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” starring Philly’s official shadow cast Transylvanian Nipple Productions) and engage in costume competitions.
