MontCo murder suspect found dead of apparent suicide: cops

A wanted man was discovered dead days after allegedly murdering his female companion.

Stanley Laing, 52, who was wanted by police in the death of Cheltenham woman Indra Sheets, 49, was found dead Saturday in his car of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Philadelphia, police said.

Laing’s body was discovered at 8:51 p.m. on the 6200 block of Crescentville Road in East Oak Lane, police said.

A police officer on patrol spotted Laing’s white Ford Escape, which was wanted in connection with the murder investigation, in a parking lot, according to the police report.

“The officer began to investigate the vehicle when he observed the complainant slumped over in the back seat,” the police report states.

Laing reportedly was found holding a handgun and had a gunshot wound to the forehead.

Sheets was found dead around 5:21 p.m. on March 5 in an apartment the couple shared, shot twice, in what Cheltenham Township police called a “domestic-related homicide.” No motive was released.

Montgomery County DA Risa Vetri Ferman filed first-degree murder charges against Laing on March 6 as the manhunt ramped up, just one day before he allegedly took his own life.
