Montco station offering gas for $1.84 as part of anti-Obama event

A Montgomery County gas station is offering customers gas for $1.84 a gallon Friday as part of a demonstration against President Obama’s energy policies.

Americans for Property, a national conservative group, is organizing the event at Liberty Gas Station on Montgomery Avenue in Merion Township to highlight what it calls President Obama’s “failing green energy policies” by reducing the price of gas to what it was in Pennsylvania when Obama took office in 2009.

“President Obama’s ideologically-driven ‘green energy’ policies have made it more difficult for Pennsylvanians to fill up their tank and drive to work, get their kids to school, and enjoy their free time,” said AFP-PA State Director Jennifer Stefano. “Our events will help Pennsylvanians get around this week and remind them of the need for sound energy policies that create jobs and lower our energy prices.”

Motorists will receive educational information and be able to sign a petition addressed to the president, the group said. Reduced-price gas will be available between 4 and 6 p.m. to the first 150 vehicles, with each being limited to 15 gallons.

Under President George W. Bush, national gas prices peaked at $4.08 per gallon in July 2008, but fell to $2.15 by the November election, then fell further to $1.68 a gallon in December 2008, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As of last Sunday, the average gas price in Pennsylvania was $3.88 per gallon, up from $3.48 a year ago, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. The national average was $3.79, compared to $3.44 a year ago.
