The seventh-district city council candidate under fire for a series of racist and homophobic posts on his Facebook account says he is staying in the race.
Manny Morales, who is challenging fellow Democrat Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez, has rebuffed calls for him to drop out of the race, even as fellow Dems are rescinding their support.
Mayoral candidate Nelson Diaz, who had endorsed Morales, issued a statement saying he had asked Morales to provide evidence backing up his claims that his account had been hacked. Morales hasn’t done so, Diaz said.
Mayor Michael Nutter also denounced Morales on his Facebook page.
Morales spokesman Michael Blackie said his campaign has asked the city’s Democratic Party to rescind its endorsement of him, saying Morales did not want to cause division within the party.
