More car vandals in Northeast Philadelphia: Acid splashing, tire theft

About 15 cars were splashed with acid overnight on the 600 block of Van Kirk in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia, police said. So far, no arrests have been made.

In an unrelated incident, police arrested three people for stealing tires from cars parked at Glendale Avenue and Shisler Street in Rhawnhurst.

Officers allegedly caught the suspects in the act and took them into custody after a brief foot chase. At least one car was propped up and had all four tires removed, police said. A van containing stolen tires and a tire jack was also found at the scene.

The incidents are the latest in a rash of car vandalism that has been plaguing Northeast Philadelphia. Police arrested 21-year-old Quincy Kramer of Holmesburg Monday for allegedly slashing nine tires on the 3300 block of Cottman Avenue Thursday night. Investigators received a tip after releasing surveillance video of the incident Saturday.

Police said yesterday that Kramer is not the only tire slasher that has been vexing residents in the area since October. Investigators believe there are multiple copycats.
