More snow is heading our way, and the National Weather Service is calling for a messy morning commute in the Philadelphia region Wednesday morning.

A winter storm warning has been issued for Philadelphia from 11 p.m. Tuesday through 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Between 1 and 2 inches of snow is expected to fall in Philadelphia overnight beginning late Tuesday, according to the latest NWS forecast. The snow will mix with sleet before turning into freezing rain.

Up to a quarter inch of freezing rain may fall before mellowing into plain rain mid-morning Wednesday. The precipitation should be gone by the afternoon, when temperatures are forecast to be in the mid- to upper 30s.

The NWS warned of “hazardous travel conditions due to snow or slush-covered roads, reduced visibility and then icing late tonight and Wednesday morning.” Italso cited the potential for power outages caused by ice accumulation on top of snow-covered tree limbs and power lines.

Cold temperatures are blamed for a water main break Monday night in Oxford Circle. Heavy snow caused an old Brewerytown building to collapse.
