More Than A Run Youth Classic set to thrill and educate Philadelphia youth

NextGen America, the nation’s leading youth voting organization, will host a pickup basketball game titled the More Than A Run Youth Classic at 3 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 6.

In partnership with several local organizations including the namesake More Than A Run, The Philly Download, Shoot Basketballs Not People, and Philly Youth Basketball, NextGen America’s youth classic will take place at the Alan Horwitz Sixth Man Center located in the Nicetown section of North Philadelphia.

There will be a local DJ, food trucks, and the highlight of the day — a pickup basketball game played by some of the top high school athletes and future basketball all-stars, and coached by professional basketball stars.

NextGen America is the nation’s leading youth voting organization, founded under the belief that young people have “the power to determine a new, brighter direction for our country on every single major issue that matters.” Throughout the event, NextGen organizers will be available to discuss the importance of voting and assist with voter registration.

More Than A Run is a New Jersey-based organization, the face of which is NBA superstar Kyrie Irving, whose mission is to provide a safe, professional, and entertaining basketball environment for the community.

The Philly Download is a nonpartisan news source for the Black community, presented strictly by members of the Black community.

Shoot Basketballs NOT People is a community-based organization dedicated to preventing violence, promoting positive change, and building stronger communities in those affected by gun violence. Founded by Garry Mills, a notable Philadelphian; both for his contributions on and off the court, SBNP’s mission is to provide support and resources to individuals impacted by violence to allow them to thrive.

Philly Youth Basketball focuses on delivering life-changing opportunities and experiences, utilizing the game of basketball as the vehicle for change. Providing a safe, nurturing environment for young people to build the skill-sets and mindsets. PYB provides local youth with the tools needed to succeed on the court and in their lives.
