Nearly a foot of snow blanketed downtown Philadelphia early this week and postponed a Flyers game in the process. Here is a look at some memorable moments caused by wacky weather in Philly Sports history.

Phillies World Series Game 5

Though the game would go on to be the clincher for the city’s first major sports championship in 25 years, at the time, it was pretty controversial.

With rain pouring down in Citizens Bank Park, MLB commissioner Bud Selig waited until the Rays, aided by dreary weather, came back to tie the game at two apiece with the Phillies before suspending the game indefinitely.

When play resumed, Pedro Feliz knocked in Eric Bruntlett to give the Phillies the 4-3 lead. Then Brad Lidge slammed the door shut striking out Eric Hinske to finish up the World Series title and unleash a party on Broad Street.

Eagles fall in Fog Bowl

Yes it was a losing effort that saw the Eagles fall to the Bears 20-12 on Dec 31, 1988, but the game has gone down as one of the wackiest football games in NFL history. Visibility was only about 15-20 yards at best, and TV cameras could barely record the action on the field as Buddy Ryan’s squad fell to Mike Ditka’s.

McCoy, Eagles dominate Lions

An instant classic, LeSean McCoy set an Eagles record with 217 rushing yards and the Birds scored 28 fourth quarter points to come back and beat the Bears in a blustery Blizzard.

Roof blown off

The roof was blown off the Spectrum in March of 1968, forcing the Flyers to play an entire month of games on the road.

It’s Tuesday night

A massive 2010 blizzard forced the first Tuesday night NFL game in decades. The Eagles fell to the Vikings 48-30.

Bounty Bowl II

Eagles fans used snowballs to back up coach Buddy Ryan against the Cowboys in this famous Eagles victory.

Bad Santa

In a moment that has gone down in Philly sports infamy, Eagles fans threw snowballs at Santa in a 1968 game.

Snowy NLDS

Tied 1-1, snow in Denver postponed the 2009 NLDS between the Phillies and Rockies.

76ers snow day

In the midst of the legendary blizzard of 1996 caused a Sixers Magic game to be postponed.
