A woman whose body was found in the Schuylkill River in East Falls on Saturday morning allegedly killed her husband and threatened her adult son earlier in the day in Montgomery County, authorities said.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele is handling the case as a “murder-suicide, attempted murder” investigation, his office said in a joint statement Sunday alongside the Upper Merion Township and Upper Dublin police departments.

The saga began at around 9:30 a.m., when police were called to a FedEx warehouse in Upper Dublin. An employee told officers that his mother – 57-year-old Tonya Dupree – had showed up, asked him to come out of his workplace, and pointed a gun to his head inside her car, according to the statement.

He was able to grab the gun from Dupree’s hand, and she fled the area, authorities said. Investigators recovered the weapon.

About 45 minutes later, police did a welfare check at Dupree’s King of Prussia home, where they found Robert Dupree Sr., 62, dead of a gunshot wound in his bed, the law enforcement agencies said.

A short time later, at around 10:40 a.m. Saturday, Philadelphia police responded to the 4500 block of Kelly Drive for a body found floating in the river. Montgomery County officials said the deceased was identified as Tonya Dupree.

Prosecutors have not commented on a potential motive in the case.
