The former Nabisco and Kraft factory in Northeast Philadelphia will close in early 2015.
After months of rumors Mondelez International, which owns Kraft, officially announced plans late Thursday to close the former bakery on Roosevelt Boulevard.
The company said 350 workers will lose their jobs.
Future production of signature brands such as Oreo will move to factories in Richmond, Va., and Fair Lawn, N.J.
Cindy Waggoner, vice president of the Biscuits brand, called the decision “bittersweet” in a statement.
“It’s always a difficult decision to close a manufacturing facility, especially one like the Philadelphia bakery, which has been part of our organization and the community for many years,” Waggoner said.
State Sen. Mike Stack said in a news release that Mondelez made a “regrettable decision.”
“I urge these workers, their families, friends and everyone who shares in our concern for vitality of Northeast neighborhoods to contact the company, community leaders and public officials to show our commitment to keeping these jobs in Philadelphia,” he said.
In a news release, Mondelez prided itself as “a global snacking powerhouse, with 2012 revenue of $35 billion.”
