Nashville matches Flyers offer for Shea Weber

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, the Flyers received (another) devastating blow concerning their offseason plans.

The Nashville Predators have matched the ridiculous offer sheet the Orange and Black put in front of Shea Weber last week — that’s 14 years, $110 million, or almost the entire worth of the Nashville franchise. The decision was made by “all parts of the organization, including ownership, hockey operations and business operations,” according to the Predators’ official website.

Nashville will hold a 1 p.m. press conference Wednesday to announce the move and the reasons behind it. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren released the following statement …

“In tendering an offer sheet to Shea Weber, we were trying to add a top defenseman entering the prime of his career,” he said. “With Nashville matching our offer, we wish Shea and the Predators all the best.”

So it sure sounds like, according to Holmgren, any possibility of a trade is off the table.

Stay tuned for any more details or breaking news …
