Winter imbibers are never at a loss in Philadelphia, and that notion is even sweeter when it comes to National Hot Chocolate Day. What’s the best way to celebrate? By raising a glass of course.
For those looking to participate and kick this week off right, here’s where to indulge for the holiday (Jan. 31) in the City of Brotherly Love.
Cake Life Bake Shop
On top of all the baked goods that are offered, Cake Like Bake Shop also serves up some tasty options for National Hot Chocolate Day. As a release notes, the Fishtown bakery’s Hot Chocolate (12oz/$4.75) uses a house-made mix with optional house syrups (+$1) like salted caramel, orange, raspberry, amaretto, banana, and vanilla, as well as big and fluffy homemade marshmallows (+$1.50) that come in two flavors – raspberry and vanilla.

Oloroso
If you’re looking for a more spirited option when it comes to hot cocoa, Oloroso has you covered. The venue is serving up its Sherry-Spiked Hot Cocoa, made with velvety homemade whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon sugar (served table-side). The drink is also fashioned with Pedro Ximénez Sherry, an “ode to its robust in-house Sherry selection.”

El Merkury
There are a few reasons to head to El Merkury for National Hot Chocolate Day. On Jan. 31, Philadelphians can stop by both locations (in Reading Terminal Market and on Chestnut Street) to try their Guatemalan hot chocolate for $5.
The Chestnut Street location will also be hosting a Churro Happy Hour from 3 to 6 p.m. (every Monday through Friday) with their BOGO deal: Buy one churro ($7), get one free. For cold weather days, guests can also warm up by substituting the second, free churro for a hot drink, including the Guatemalan Hot Chocolate, hot drip coffee, espresso, cappuccinos and lattes.
