NBA Playoffs: Heat is on, Sixers one game from elimination

Heat 100, Sixers 94 (Heat lead series 3-0)

What went wrong …

1 Best shot not good enough

No matter what your job is, it’s always disheartening to know that your best isn’t good enough. That reality is now setting in for the Sixers. They jumped out to a big, first-quarter lead again Thursday, and even played well enough to be up by two at the half. But even when the Heat play at a B level and the Sixers play near their full potential (Games 1 and 3), the result has been a loss for Doug Collins’ bunch. In a bottom line business, it’s clear that these Sixers just aren’t good enough.

2 Not Dre’s day — again

The Sixers’ highest-paid player has long been a whipping boy for the franchise. Thursday won’t help. Iguodala made his first shot from the field — a trey — and then proceeded to construct a house of bricks. Yes, he dished out 10 assists and is clearly bothered by the tendinitis in his knee. But when Iguodala scores 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting, the Sixers can’t win. Iguodala was showered with some boos in the fourth quarter.

3 Board up

It wasn’t the first shot that killed the Sixers in Game 3. It was the weak-side rebound. As bigs would come off their man to help on LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, the Sixers left the boards wide open. The Heat ended up with 20 offensive rebounds and outrebounded the Sixers, 50-34, overall. It’s just another benefit of having three superstars on one team. Even Zydrunas Ilgauskas can have 10 points and eight rebounds.
