NBA Playoffs: Sixers hang around, but lose series to Miami

Heat 97, Sixers 91 (MIA wins series, 4-1)

What went wrong …

1 Where was Sweet Lou?

Doug Collins preached all season that Andre Iguodala was his go-to guy down the stretch in tight games, yet the ball has always seemed to find Lou Williams in those situations. Not in Game 5. With the Sixers down three points and 16.8 ticks on the clock, Collins drew up a play for Iguodala, who promptly missed a 20-foot jumper. Shockingly, Williams wasn’t even on the court. Jodie Meeks was.

2 Three-point party

Every time LeBron James or Dwyane Wade penetrated, there seemed to be an open man waiting behind the arc. James Jones connected on three 3-pointers, while Mario Chalmers hit six treys. James himself also chipped in with a pair. As a team, Miami was 12-of-30 from three-point land.

3 Closing time

The Sixers played with a lot of heart in this series. With the exception of Game 2, they had a chance to win every game, including last night’s series-ending defeat. Evan Turner limited James to three points in the fourth quarter, and Thaddeus Young played the role of closer, scoring 9 of his 13 points in the frame. However, the Sixers went 9-of-14 from the foul line in the quarter. That’s five points right there.
