A man apprehended in Puerto Rico was recently returned to Philadelphia to face murder charges in connection with a double homicide earlier this year, authorities said Friday.
Police believe Alejandro Perez, 23, opened fire on a Jeep Cherokee – killing 30-year-old Rudy Reyes and 32-year-old Wesley Toribio-Diaz – on the morning of Monday, Feb. 10, on the 700 block of Adams Avenue in the Crescentville section of Northeast Philadelphia.
Perez was taken into custody May 13 and extradited last week, according to the PPD. Court documents show he was arraigned Saturday and jailed without bail. He was charged with two separate counts of murder, conspiracy and a host of other crimes.
More than 50 spent shell casings were recovered from the scene of the shooting, and police told television crews at the time that surveillance video showed two gunmen. No one else has been charged in connection with the killings, according to court records.
A preliminary hearing for Perez is scheduled for July 7. His legal representation could not be identified Sunday.
