Pennsylvania animal cruelty authorities are investigating the discovery of an abandoned horse that had been shot with approximately 130 paintball rounds.
Employees at the New Holland Sales Stables discovered the animal on Monday, Lancaster County SPCA Executive Director Susan Martin said to Lancaster Online, which added that, besides showing the paintball remnants, the 20-year-old horse was also underweight when found. RELATED:Severed horse head found in Manhattan park “It was definitely in a substantial amount of pain when touched,” Martin was quoted by Lancaster Online.
The horse was not part of Monday’s sale and did not have any identification, ABC stated in a related report.
Martin told Lancaster Online that the animal appeared to be an Appaloosa/Arabian pony mix, and it was blind in its right eye.
The horse was taken to a facility operated by the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine, where it was expected to survive after a long recovery, according to ABC.
