Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that forever changed the nation. In observance of this Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, events across Philadelphia are honoring heroes and service members, and never forget those who were lost in the attack.
This includes events set to take place throughout Philadelphia to remember those who lost, the heroes who served on that day, and the service members who later served in the wars that came after. Here are three events in Philly that commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
‘First Responders Night’ at Citizen’s Bank Park
Ahead of their game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Philadelphia Phillies, in partnership with Toyota and Major League Baseball, will host an on-field tribute to remember those who lost their lives and pay tribute to the men and women who continue to serve bravely. The event includes a moment of silence, commemorative lineup cards, and base jewels. Additionally, players will wear 9/11 ribbon patches on their New Era caps.
United States Marine Corps Veteran and Veterans Multi-Service Center Board Vice President Jim Davie will have the honor of throwing a ceremonial first pitch. A member of the Force Reconnaissance Company and Special Operations and Squad Leader, Davie served two tours of duty in Iraq, where he suffered life-threatening injuries.

9/11 Heroes Run at the Philadelphia Navy Yard
On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Philadelphia Navy Yard, in partnership with the Travis Manion Foundation, will host a 9/11 Heroes Run. The event aims to unite communities and honor the heroes of 9/11 and the service members who served in the wars that followed.
Donations are being accepted to help support veterans and also to support future 9/11 events to ensure continued remembrance of one of the Nation’s greatest tragedies. For a limited time, each donation made will be matched up to $15,000 with the support of REE Medical, a company that helps veterans overcome the challenges related to VA disability claims while providing a level of respect, competency, and clarity throughout the process.
